Bringing Six Months of Bookkeeping Up to Date for a US Consulting Business

A US-based consulting business with a small team and regular monthly expenses. The business was using QuickBooks Online, but bookkeeping had gradually fallen behind as the owner focused on managing client work and business operations.

The Situation

When the client approached us, approximately six months of bookkeeping needed attention.

Transactions were being imported into QuickBooks Online, but many had not been properly reviewed or categorized. Several bank and credit card accounts also required reconciliation.

The client was working with an external tax professional and needed the books organized before providing year-end information.

What We Did

We first reviewed the existing QuickBooks file and identified the accounts and periods that required attention.

Our work included:

• Categorizing income and expenses

• Identifying transactions that required clarification from the client

The Outcome

The backlog was brought up to date, and the client moved to a regular monthly bookkeeping process.

The client also had a clearer process for providing information and answering accounting questions, which reduced back-and-forth communication during subsequent months.
